Australia-Fewer people take part inwork-related training

Participationin work-related training for working-age Australians fell to 22% in 2016-17from 27% in 2013, according to survey data released by the Australian Bureau ofStatistics. Approximately 3.8 million people across the country participated inwork-related training in the 12 months prior to the survey.

"Thesurvey results show a decrease in work-related training over about threeyears," said ABS expert Stephen Collett. "Men's participation dropped from 27%to 22%, while women's participation dropped from 27% to 21%."

The surveyalso found one in 10 Australians aged 15 to 74 years would like to participatein more work-related training. For almost half of these people, too much workor too little time were the main reason that they could not participate more.For about one in four people who wanted more training, the cost wasprohibitive.
